MAKE SURE YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES
Preparing for communication issues is imperative to ground operations during catastrophes. Plan ahead and put your plan into practice with periodic drills. Preparations should include redundancies – a necessity for communicating with volunteers. Assess if you’re properly equipped for optimal coverage and connectivity in any situation.
Checklist of Must-haves
- A surplus of portable, two-way radios
Count on using at least 15 percent more than your current pool to communicate with volunteers.
- Two-way radio chargers
We recommend 10 to 15 percent additional travel and desktop chargers.
- Programming cables
Radios that can’t be programmed over the air will need a cable to connect to a computer—a necessity when configurating talkgroups. It’s best to have an additional 10-15 percent of cables of your total amount of two-way radios.
- Antennas
Ensure strong, steady reception and coverage with a stock of 10 to 15 percent extra antennas.
- Software Updates
Avoid the risk of not being connected during an emergency due to outdated radios. Implement software updates faster and more efficiently via our Over-the-Air solution.
- Replacement Parts
Don’t get caught off guard without a replacement part. Ensure plenty of backups when you need them.

ASTRO® 25 Applications and Software
FLEET MANAGEMENT SIMPLIFIED
Today, the software inside your two-way radios determines the speed, longevity and quality of your radio communications. Incompatibility issues, glitches, and security threats can impede a radio’s performance–impacting evacuations, search-and-rescue missions and recovery efforts. Ease the task of maintaining your fleet of APX™ digital radios.
- Over-the-Air Software Update
Forgo months of manual labor to physically update entire fleets of radios. Get it done in less than a week with no service disruption. Automatically update thousands of radios by sending files over Wi-Fi or your ASTRO 25 network without interrupting voice communications.
- Programming Over P25 (POP25)
Locating and reprogramming existing radios can take first responders away from their mission and result in thousands of unproductive man-hours. What’s the smarter alternative? Reprogram radios over the air. POP25 eliminates the burden, cost and time of having to bring radios into a service shop to modify or reconfigure them.
- ASTRO® 25 Over-the-Air Rekeying (OTAR)
Rekeying your radios on a regular basis doesn’t have to be a logistical nightmare. Distribute and manage security encryption keys over the air with OTAR, increasing security, savings and simplicity.
Take the hassle out of managing fleets.

NG9-1-1 SOLUTIONS
Keep your PSAPs connected
When disaster strikes, the most important component of your preparedness plan should be your communications operations to ensure that those needing assistance are able to connect with those who can provide it. Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) are the link between people in distress and the response teams that can help so it is vital to keep these connections safe and secure even in the midst of chaos. With the right tools and setup, PSAPs can make the process of dealing with the aftermath more productive and effective. But how? NG9-1-1 can help.
NG9-1-1 solutions offer the equipment you need to serve your community in the most critical times. While helping you link emergency call handling, command & control, and records & evidence, this software alone can increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and reduce risk. Get more complete data on the entire emergency workflow process for better decision making where and when it really counts.
